Fraser, the World's Largest Sand Island

I'm finally back blogging.  The blog is via Google, which is banned in China, so unable to finish up Australia and blog on China for the past couple of weeks.  We are now in CDG airport in Paris, with a 5 hour layover before our flight to Tel Aviv.  Flew overnight from Beijing and arrived at 5 am Paris time this morning.  Here's the rest of our Australia trip:

After 2 nights in Yeppoon, we came back to Hervey Bay for our last 3 nights in Australia. We were very fortunate to have great weather for our entire time in Australia.  While we were up in Queensland, Sydney experienced a severe storm, with snow in the Blue Mountains, large power outages, and flooded streets and vehicles. It was lovely the whole time we were there.

From Hervey Bay, we ferried to Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island and a World Heritage site.  Only 4 wheel drive vehicles are allowed on the island.  We travelled around on a bus with huge wheels, over narrow and bumpy sand roads in the interior, and along the 75 mile sand beach on the Pacific side, which is actually considered a national highway. The Pacific Ocean is really beautiful along the sand highway, and some people were surf-casting, but no swimming there as the water is full of sharks!  The island contains 10 fresh water lakes (we didn't swim but quite a few folks did), the purest strain of dingos in existence, a rainforest with ferns that grow nowhere else, and some fantastic scenery.
