Another Day in Puerto Ayora

We woke up Wednesday to find that the electricity was off.  John had left the day before to boat up to the north end of Isabela Island, where the Wulff Volcano is erupting.  He's hoping to get some good photos.  Donna (a Terre Haute, Indiana native) informed us that it was an island-wide outage and assisted in re-setting the circuit breakers for our apartment.  We've really enjoyed the apartment at Torre Mar, whick John and Donna built about ten years ago.  They live in the building with their 7 1/2 year old son, Donavon (who is tri-lingual), have another four apartments for rent, and rent to shops on the ground level. The nearby bakery was open, so fresh croissants, but couldn't make coffee until we got connected about 11:00 that morning.  After we were caffeinated, we wandered around the town a bit. Puerto Ayora is the "big city" of the islands.  Donna is the U.S. consul there, and said there are about 30 U.S. residents on the island.  She thought the problems would come from the visitors, but has been surprised at the attention needed by the residents.
